The Geopark Goes to School team visited SMA Negeri 4 Merangin in Sungai Manau District today as part of the ongoing educational program.
Ms. Nurhayati, S.H., the OSIS advisor, and teachers and students eagerly awaited the team's arrival from Bangko City. "It's an honor for us," Ms. Nurhayati stated as she guided the team to the meeting hall.
Ms. Nurhayati opened the event by apologizing for the principal's absence and encouraging the students to participate actively in the Geopark Goes to School event.
Febra Muyu from the education, conservation, and community empowerment division was excited to share insights about Geopark Merangin Jambi with the eager students of SMA N 4 Merangin.
Febra Muyu's presentation highlighted that a geopark features significant geological elements like rocks, fossils, and distinct landscapes. Geoparks emphasize natural beauty, Earth's history, education, and support for the local economy.
The Geopark sites in Sungai Manau are unique, featuring ancient rocks, fossils, and stunning landscapes that support local communities through environmental conservation and cultural heritage. The area includes the Karst regions of Tiangko Cave, Sengering Cave, and Sengayau Cave, highlighting the connection between cultural values and nature, suggesting that ancient humans may have lived there.
"Let's work together to protect what we have," Muyu concluded her presentation.
