MoU between Merangin Jambi UNESCO Global Geopark, Indonesia with Lesvos Island UNESCO Global Geopark

Marrakech-Morocco, September 9, 2023

The signing of the MoU was carried out by Dr. Agus, S.Sos., M.Hum as the General Manager of Merangin Jambi UNESCO Global Geopark, Indonesia with Prof. Nickolas Zouros as Director of the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest Lesvos Island UNESCO Global Geopark.

Prof. Nickolas Zouros is also as the President of the Global Geopark Network, with this MoU it is hoped that Merangin Jambi UNESCO Global Geopark can learn more from Lesvos Island as the oldest Geopark in the world, and one of the countries that gave birth to a lot of science (Greece).

The MoU was signed at the 2023 GGN General Assembly in Marrakech-Morocco when this country was hit by a major earthquake. It is hoped that the earthquake and this MOU will strengthen each other between the world's Geoparks. In order to carry out the functions of Conservation, Education and Community Empowerment, the main ones are to make the Geopark area implement a disaster mitigation and disaster resilience program.
