Merangin Jambi Geopark had legalized as the UNESCO Global Geopark.

The General Manager of Merangin Jambi Geopark, Dr. Agus, S.Sos., M.Hum, and the Vice Regent of Merangin, Mr. Nilwan Yahwa, SE, who is also on the Advisory Board of the Merangin Jambi Geopark Management Agency, attended the UNESCO annual meeting.

After passing the Assessment phase from 8 to 10 October 2022, the Merangin Jambi Geopark had legally appointed as a UNESCO Global Geopark through the 216th Session of the Executive Board that happens at the UNESCO Secretariat in Paris on 10-24 May 2023.

The Executive Board accepted and endorsed the UNESCO Global Geopark nomination decided by the UNESCO Global Geopark Councils at its seventh meeting held in Satun, Thailand, on 4-5 September 2022 and online from 7-9 December 2022.

Eighteen new geoparks had designated as UNESCO Global Geoparks, and 4 of them are geoparks in Indonesia, namely the Ijen Geopark, the Maros Pangkep Geopark, the Merangin Jambi Geopark, and the Raja Ampat Geopark.
