BP Geopark Merangin Jambi and PUI - GEMAR UNJA organized a Batik Training Workshop for Community Empowerment

As part of efforts to enhance community welfare, boost the local economy, and create new business opportunities, BP MJUGGP collaborated with PUI - GEMAR Jambi University to hold a batik training program for the Air Batu Handwritten Batik Women’s Group. The workshop, titled "Training on Geodiversity Batik Design, Influencer Marketing, and Product Packaging as a Unique Identity of Air Batu Village in the Merangin Jambi UNESCO Global Geopark Area," was attended by 16 participants.
In the opening remarks, the GM of MJUGGP, represented by the Planning, Development, and Finance Division, highlighted that Air Batu Handwritten Batik has become a distinctive representation of geodiversity and a leading product of Merangin Regency. It is hoped that this training will provide opportunities for women to develop home-based businesses and open up new sources of income.
Anggie Deliana Siregar, representing PUI - GEMAR UNJA, explained that the workshop not only aims to preserve and promote geodiversity-inspired batik motifs but also equips participants with essential skills in digital marketing through influencer strategies and attractive product packaging techniques.
According to the GM of MJUGGP, the batik-making process introduced during the training uses environmentally friendly techniques and natural materials sourced from the Air Batu Geosite. These resources inspire fresh and innovative ideas, which can be translated into unique batik designs to attract customers.
The GM expressed hope that this training for the Air Batu Handwritten Batik Women’s Group, which is also part of the Air Batu Village Women’s Organization (TP PKK), will continue to grow and empower participants to establish sustainable businesses. The use of social media for marketing is expected to play a significant role in expanding their reach.
At the conclusion of the workshop, the GM of MJUGGP presented batik-making equipment to the leader of the Air Batu Handwritten Batik Women’s Group. "We hope this initiative will continue to flourish, improve family incomes, and contribute to the overall well-being of the community," concluded the GM of MJUGGP.
