Attending the Welcome Digital Event, General Manager Mr. Agus Zainuddin who Explains the Geological

Merangin Jambi, Once established and officially announced, Merangin Jambi Geopark membership has become Merangin Jambi UNESCO Global Geopark (MJUGGp).

Merangin Jambi Geopark is one of the 18 new members of UNESCO Global Geopark. It had announced at the annual meeting held last Wednesday, May 24, in Paris.

After officially joining, the eighteen new UGGp members were invited to take part in the Welcome Digital Event held virtually.

The event was an online welcome for 18 new UGGp members, and a membership extension (Major Extension) was opened directly by Mr. Nickolas Zouros, President of the Global Geopark Network (GGN).

General Manager of the Merangin Jambi Management Body UNESCO Global Geopark, Mr. Agus Zainuddin, along with the Governor of Jambi Province, Mr. Al Haris, attended and took part in this welcoming event online at the Jambi Governor Office, on Tuesday, June 6, 2023.

The event, also presented by the Head of the Jambi Provincial Culture and Tourism Office, the Head of the Regional Development Planning Agency of Jambi Province, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Jambi Province, the Jambi Province Regional Board of the Indonesian Association of Geologists, the Jambi University representatives.

As a new member, Mr. Agus Zainuddin, the General Manager of Merangin Jambi UGGp, also had the opportunity to explain the uniqueness and diversity of geology and sustainable development plans in the Merangin Geopark area, as well as programs that will carry out after the establishment of Merangin Jambi UGGp.

General Manager also conveyed his hopes to all stakeholders and the government to jointly face the development challenges of the entire region in the future.

"We need to increase the collaboration between stakeholders, so in the planning and development of Merangin Jambi UGGp will continue to increase the community's economy will be realized immediately," said Mr. Agus on the sidelines of the event.

Currently, all new UGGp members are just receiving the UGGp membership charter. It will be scheduled for next September in Morocco and presented by participants from all Geoparks Worldwide.

The event has become an unforgettable moment to introduce the Merangin Jambi UNESCO Global Geopark worldwide.
