CULTURAL HERITAGE OF TRADITIONAL KALINONG RANTAU PANJANG MUSIC

Kalinong is a melodic percussion music performance art created by umbak laut in the 1800’s. in the form of a kulintang made of metal/bronze, there are 5 pieces arranged on a stand (where the kulintang is located) which is played by women by being hit using a wooden sticks and each unit has a different tone. the kulintang is accompanied by one drum.
Kalinong music is one of the diversity of traditional music arts that originated and developed in the dusun baru of tabir subdistrict, merangin district, jambi province. this music serves to entertain people to the fields or umo, welcome guests and welcome the planting season. The repertoire in this art includes among others: Ibrahim Nalo, Bucerai kasih, Rayuan Tabir and others
